Waiheke Island Self Guided eBike Tours

Waiheke is home to world-class – award-winning vineyards, eateries and beaches! Not to mention, a world class golf course, stunning scenery, historic WWII history and much more. On your self guided eBike experience, you can ride at your own pace with relaxed timings as you make your way along your chosen route – or make it up as you go along!

Start & End At Matiatia Bay Ferry Terminal

Arrive to Waiheke on the Fullers or Island Direct ferry service and meet our staff at the eRide Waiheke bike HQ located inside the ferry terminal at Matiatia, see map below. Here we will set you up on your eBike, the accesories included, provide a safety briefing and then talk you through the best routes and great spots plus some hidden local highlights to visit along the way.

The two choices of riding areas; the 5 Bays ride is where most of Waiheke resides and where you get the best snapshot of the Island, vineyards, eateries and beaches! The Man O War is for more advanced riders and pushes the range of the ebikes due to the terian and the distance, you will not have enough battery charge to do both rides and the support times for the rider is different.

Popular eBike Routes on Waiheke Island

5 Bay Ride – Easy

Explore Waiheke’s stunning beaches. This ride takes you around the Northern coast of the island. Stop along the way for as many swims, photos or coffees as you like! Start from Oneroa and cruise down to the main beach where dolphins sometimes hang out.  Then sweep around to Little O’ where you can walk out to the point for a photo.

Next stop up the hill – that will be destroyed by your powerful eBike – are Sandy and Enclosure bays – particularly good for snorkelling.  Once you’re ready, continue on to world famous Palm Beach and if you dare, pay a visit to the “clothing optional” Little Palm ‘nudey beach’.

Stop for a swim, coffee or a bite to eat at Arcadia Restaurant, then take the scenic hilly route to Onetangi beach, the largest beach on Waiheke and arguably the best with crystal sand. You are half way on your journey. Enjoy the views and optionally some lunch at one of three main beach restaurants. Next is the wineries valley, you can visit for tasting or a lunch before making your way back to Oneroa via Ostend, Surfdale Beach and The Esplanade.

Man O’ War Adventure (Eastern End) – Challenging

Take the day to venture out to the Eastern End of Waiheke. For riders who are up for a more of an adventure, the Eastern End has plenty to offer.

Explore the underground Worlds War 2 tunnels at Stony Batter, see some of the less-visited beaches on the island, and taste the delicious food and wine on offer at some of the more award-winning vineyards of Man O’ War, Passage Rock, and Poderi Crisci.

You could choose to visit all of the vineyards, or just one for picnic lunch!  It’s entirely up to you.

Although it’s not for the faint-hearted, this route is really a blast and we’ve even taken kids out on this ride, so it is very “do-able” with good battery management!

The rural roads take you on a winding adventure through the countryside and it involve some non-sealed road riding, so ideally you’ll have some level of experience and a moderate level of fitness.
