Essential Details:

  • Allow 5–6 hours for the full loop.
  • This ride is best suited for confident riders with a medium + fitness level, be ready to tackle some hills!
  • Riders heading to Man O’ War must leave the eRide office at Matiatia by 12 midday to ensure a safe and supported journey.
  • The minimum age to ride one of our e-bikes is 12 years, and riders must be at least 150 cm (4 ft 9 in) tall, with a maximum weight of 140 kg and maximum height of 210 cm (6 ft 7 in).

Experience Waiheke Island in comfort, adventure, and style. Embark on an unforgettable cycling journey that showcases the best of Waiheke Island’s stunning landscapes, world-class vineyards, and rich history.

Start your adventure at Matiatia Ferry Terminal, where you’ll hop onto your e-bike and ride directly to Onetangi. From there, turn right onto Waiheke Road, beginning a steady climb that rewards you with elevated views of rolling farmland and the breath-taking expanse of the Hauraki Gulf.

As you pedal past the Awaawaroa Bay turnoff, you’ll glimpse the picturesque Poderi Crisci Vineyard nestled in the serene valley. The ride intensifies as you conquer massive hills en route to Passage Rock Vineyard, a perfect stop to catch your breath and take in the tranquil surroundings.

Continuing the adventure, turn off before Oripu to tackle 17 kilometres of exhilarating gravel road. Along this stretch, pass the Waiheke Distilling Company, where you’ll be treated to spectacular views of nearby islands and the Coromandel Peninsula. The descent into Man O’ War Bay is a highlight, with its pristine waters inviting you for a quick swim and a chance to relax with a bite to eat at the bay’s café.

Re-energized, cycle onward to the historic Stony Batter Reserve. Here, delve into the fascinating WWII-era tunnel network and admire sweeping vistas that stretch across the island.

The return journey takes you back to Onetangi Bay, where the 1.8-kilometer stretch of golden sand offers the perfect spot for another swim or a leisurely break. As the day winds down, ride back toward Matiatia, making a final stop at the iconic Mudbrick Vineyard. Raise a glass as the setting sun casts a golden glow over the island and the Hauraki Gulf.

Complete your day by descending back to the ferry terminal, arriving by 5.30pm, your heart full of memories and your spirit rejuvenated by this extraordinary Waiheke adventure.
